The Journal of Trading Standards
Welcome to the new home of the Journal of Trading Standards, the Chartered Trading Standards Institute's flagship publication.
Here, you'll find our new digital edition JoTS Online, which replaces our standalone website (journaloftradingstandards.co.uk), details of our Print Edition - with access to the Latest Issue and Back Issues in digital facsimile format - and any other information you might need, including publication deadlines, details of our editorial policy and board, how CTSI Members can get more involved with the Journal, and Advertising/Sponsorship Opportunities.
Get Involved! Your Opinions and Topic Suggestions
We welcome suggestions for inclusion in either edition of the Journal of Trading Standards from CTSI Members, regulatory compliance organisations, academics, experts in related industries (legal profession, enforcement etc) and the wider public. We particularly value the editorial contributions made by our members (e.g. blogs, profiles and opinion pieces).
Publishing Information and Editorial Policy
The print and online editions of the Journal of Trading Standards are published by the Chartered Trading Standards Institute. However, the print edition is produced on our behalf by our specialist creative/editorial partner, Fourth Estate Creative, with direction from the Editorial Board - which includes the Editorial Team, officers and employees of CTSI, and a number of dedicated members with expertise in the areas covered.
- Publishing Deadlines: Content is continually added to JoTS Online (our online edition). Therefore, online deadlines are flexible and ongoing - and we will always do our best to accommodate your requirements at the first opportunity. However, the print edition is produced, printed and mailed to all CTSI Members twice a year. As a result, it is subject to strict deadlines (some of which are dictated by third parties).
Ultimately, print deadlines are determined by the Editorial Team and can vary depending on their schedules and the availability of unallocated space in the magazine. If you want to contribute content to the Print Edition - editorial or commercial - please allow 3-6 months lead time (as a guide) but email the team for specifics: Editorial Team (Print Deadline Enquiry).
- Editorial Policy: The Journal of Trading Standards supports informed, professional practice across Trading Standards and consumer protection. We are committed to accuracy, fairness and independence, and all content is selected and edited under the oversight of our Editorial Board. While we publish a range of views, including opinion pieces and external contributions, these do not necessarily reflect the official position of CTSI.
We may carry advertising, sponsorship and other commercial content to support the publication. This will be clearly labelled (for example, as “Sponsored content”) and kept distinct from independent editorial material. Acceptance of advertising or sponsorship does not imply CTSI’s endorsement of any organisation, product or service, and commercial relationships do not influence our editorial decisions.
If you have any specific questions about our Editorial Policy, please email the Policy Team.
- Online Content: If you object to any of the information included in our JoTS Online articles or would like to make corrections, please email us: Editorial Team (JoTS Online - Corrections).
Advertise in the Journal
The Journal of Trading Standards offers unique access to an important, niche audience that is difficult to reach elsewhere, including local authority regulatory compliance professionals, industry leaders, and politicians and policy-makers with an interest in consumer protection. Find out how you can advertise in our acclaimed Print Edition, on JoTS Online and elsewhere.
