UPDATES: Joint investigations by TyreSafe and trading standards found unsafe part-worn tyres on sale at most retailers visited, exposing motorists to serious risks and prompting renewed calls for tougher compliance across the sector.
Nationwide investigations by UK charity TyreSafe and Trading Standards over the past five years have revealed that a worrying proportion of used tyre dealers are selling unsafe goods.
Of the 152 part-worn tyre retailers visited, 139 were selling illegal and dangerous tyres. That leaves just 13 dealers selling roadworthy tyres from inspections spanning from Scotland to London.
