UPDATES: A routine inspection in Brent led to the discovery of illegal cigarettes hidden on retail premises after a trained sniffer dog was deployed, resulting in prosecution, substantial fines and a reminder of the continuing fight against illicit tobacco.
A shop owner in Brent, north-west London, has been fined more than £6,000 for selling illegal cigarettes.
A specially trained sniffer dog uncovered cigarettes that fell below legal standards during an operation led by Brent and Harrow Trading Standards in July 2021.
